The canyon of the river Botunya near Varshets
Nature has done its job well here and the bizarre rock formations and holes make you feel like you are on the moon and not in Bulgaria 🙂 An extremely beautiful place, suitable for great photos. The canyon is 94 km away. from Sofia and 23 km. from Vratsa. It is reached by car and stops on the left side of the road (if you are coming from Sofia). After parking cross over to the other side of the road and follow a beaten path in the bushes. Along it, there are several forks to the right that will reveal the canyon to you.

Tsar Asen Mine
Proof that a dangerous place full of toxic water and poison can gain incredible popularity thanks to selfie fashion. A deserted lake full of toxic turquoise waters, this place is like taken out of a fantasy movie and is visited almost daily by many vloggers, influencers and photographers. Extremely suitable location for photos if you shoot with a drone. The lake is located near the eponymous village of Tsar Asen, which is close Pazardzhik.

the Devetashka cave
Of course, we can't miss the Devetashka Cave in this article. A unique place that has even become a film set for famous Hollywood productions. This is a large karst cave, which in the past was inhabited by cavemen for tens of thousands of years, and today is home to over 30,000 bats. With a length of nearly 2.5 km, a height of 60 m and a total area of about 20,400 m2, Devetashka is one of the largest caves in Bulgaria, although only a small part is accessible to regular tourists.

Satan Dere
Sheitan Dere, or as it is also known as this place "Devil's Canyon", is located under the wall of the dam Studen Kladenets and is one of the little known landmarks in The Rhodopes. Seen from above, the natural landmark visualizes a landscape from another planet, through which the Arda River passes. The canyon is of volcanic origin and has frozen lava from the long-extinct volcano. In general, the whole region around Studen Kladenets Dam is uniquely beautiful, so Satan Dere is just one of the reasons to visit it.
