Easter in Bulgaria is not just a holiday – it is a feeling. The smell of kozunak in the house, a spring wind that carries the song of bells, hands stained red by eggs… This is a time when everything comes to life – nature, the soul, and most of all – hope.

The light in the night

The most magical moment comes on Saturday evening. The church is lit by hundreds of candles, people gather in front of the temple with hushed conversations and anticipation. And then at midnight it is announced: "Christ is Risen!". The fire passes from hand to hand, faces light up, and the night is filled with light and blessing. Everyone walks around the church with a flame in their hand, in silent homage to the miracle of the resurrection. You guard the flame from the wind, as if it were something sacred – and it really is.

The eggs – a floral dance of spring

Dyeing eggs is a whole ritual – especially if there are children at home. They laugh, get dirty, create. The first egg is always red – for health and protection. With it, grandma touches everyone’s foreheads – from the youngest to the oldest. Then the real creativity begins – colorful, with petals, with wax patterns, with smiles and attempts at perfection. And then? The big bang begins! Who will win the “egg fight” and have health for a whole year?

The Kozunak – aromatic magic

If you've ever kneaded kozunak, you know – it's not just baking. It's an art. You knead the dough with patience, roll it into braids, add raisins or Turkish delight, and wait… And when it starts to smell throughout the house – then you know that Easter is approaching. Every bite brings warmth, as if from childhood, from the hands of mom or grandma.

Lamb – the taste of tradition

The Easter table is often decorated with roasted lamb – not only because it is delicious, but because it has been that way since time immemorial. Symbolic, deep, connected to faith and the land. In some families, a whole lamb is cooked in the oven, in others – with rice, watercress, mint… But always with an aroma that says: “Welcome home.”

And more...

There is something special about these days – people are more smiling, the streets are more colorful, and hearts are more open. On Sunday, relatives gather, smiles and blessings are exchanged, laughter is heard from every house. Easter is not just a rite – it is alive, it happens in the kitchen, in the living room, in the soul.

It's Easter...

...when you light a candle at midnight and feel that you are not alone.
When children enjoy the colorful egg more than any toy.
When the scent of kozunak mixes with the spring air and you feel warm inside.
When you all sit around a table – not because you have to, but because it's right. Because it's Easter. And because we're together.
