A lot of information about Blagoevgrad has been recorded in Bulgarian history. More interesting is the existence of the city during the Ottoman yoke and during the Renaissance. Historical facts prove that during the years of slavery, the entire Islamic army was concentrated in this city. During this period Blagoevgrad was known by other names - Duma Bazari, Orta Duma, Jumaya and Gorna Jumaya - Turkish names. For many years, the population of the city consisted only of representatives of the Islamic religion. During the Renaissance, the formation of the Varosha quarter began, where the Bulgarian population was concentrated. Today, this part of the city is known as the old Blagoevgrad. The architectural complex offers to see houses, monuments and objects from the difficult and glorious Bulgarian history. In fact, it is in Varosha that a large part of the sights of the city are located. Here you will find the Church of the Introduction of the Virgin, declared a national cultural monument. Not far from it is the Regional History Museum in the city. Its organization follows the departments "Archaeology", "Ethnography" and "Nature", which will allow you to literally and figuratively touch the individual views of our historical and natural wealth. On the territory of the city, there are also monuments to quite famous figures from Bulgarian history, which you will accidentally come across while walking around the city.
Blagoevgrad is also an attractive place for students. Thousands of Bulgarian and foreign young people choose to continue their education at the American University - AUBG. The university is private and is quite different from other universities in our country. AUBG follows the traditional American "liberal arts" model of education, which gives students the opportunity to combine knowledge from different disciplines, which is a prerequisite for better professional realization in the future. The training is conducted entirely in English, and international teachers are gathered here, with outstanding successes in their scientific field all over the world. The Southwest University "Neofit Rilski", also located in Blagoevgrad, is also a well-known and quite successful higher education institution.
Blagoevgrad also amazes with its natural attractions. Most eco-paths start from here Rila and Pirin. Many people who choose to stay in the city, without fail visit the Seven Rila Lakes - one of the most impressive natural landmarks of the Bulgarian nature. The Rila Monastery is one of the most significant monuments of Bulgarian culture and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is worth visiting on your way to Blagoevgrad.
