Passable or "Eyes of God"

Prohodna became extremely famous with the growth of the social network Instagram and the bungee jumping that you can do there. Located 2 km from Karlukovo in North-Central Bulgaria, Prohodna Cave is one of the largest and most accessible caves in Bulgaria. This is a major attraction in the Karlukovo Gorge, one of the largest karst areas in the country, located in the Iskar-Panega Geological Park. Prohodna Cave is a tunnel cave with a length of 262 meters, which makes it the longest of its kind in Bulgaria. At each end there are two entrances, respectively the Big Entrance and the Small Entrance. The first is not less than 45 meters high - the largest cave vault in Bulgaria. The two holes are in the shape of eyes, hence the name of the cave.

Glacier

One of the most famous caves in Bulgaria, Ledenika Cave, has been a popular destination since its opening in 1961. The cave is located in Stara Planina and is one of the smaller caves in Bulgaria, about 350 meters long. Still, it consists of ten different galleries, one of which has a small lake. The glacier is unique to visit because it has lower temperatures than most other caves in the Balkans. This leads to the formation of icy stalagmites and stalactites in winter. This abundance of beautiful ice pendants explains the name of the cave.

The devil's throat

Near the border with Greece in southern Bulgaria is the Devil's Throat Cave. It is located about 2 km from the town of Trigrad in the Trigrad Gorge. This cave is different from all other Bulgarian caves because there are no cave formations in it. This is not a cave with corridors and halls. It is from the so-called "precipice caves", where the water from the river Trigrad descends into a deep ravine. This is the Devil's Throat, 42 meters high, the highest underground waterfall in the Balkans. Entering the cave is possible only with a guide who will guide visitors through man-made halls and stairs to the waterfall. The cave is associated with many legends - it is said that here Orpheus went down to the underworld to look for Eurydice. Locals say that the water falling from the waterfall goes somewhere in the bowels of the earth and fallen objects never come out or after a long time - another fact fostering zarlic legends and tales hovering around the place…
