In the period from 2.5.2024 to 5.5.2024 at the dam Batak the first sports competition of its kind in catching carp was held - Batak Carp Competition 2024 organized by NSRV - National Association for the Development of Water Reservoirs. Twenty teams from all over Bulgaria embarked on a fierce but athletic battle, which turned out to be more than challenging and difficult...

Despite the contestants' hopes for a very successful fishing trip, mother nature had a great surprise in store for them… a sudden change in weather and 3 days of nothing but rain and extremely unfavorable fishing weather… The sudden change in weather and drastic change in water temperature caused the fish to withdrawn and not to "take" the numerous delicacies offered to them from Sharanji...
After the first 24 hours of extremely difficult fishing, only 2 teams could boast of hits - SKR Mlekarevo on sector 2 and Carp Team Nekadarnits, which fished on sector 12 near the counter-wall of the dam. The underdogs registered with 3 fish with a total weight of 16.59 kg. and the hit of SKR Mlekarevo, which remained the largest fish caught, was 7.355 kg.

The next 24 hours were hell for the teams… Rain, hail and strong wind almost broke their spirits, but not a single team gave up! Even the smallest competitors behaved heroically and managed to check every stroke and feed despite the terrible weather conditions... At the next weigh-in, there was only one hit for the NROS team from sector 9 – they caught a fish weighing 2.845 kg.
On the eve of Easter, the situation had not changed - the heavy rain still remained a constant companion in fishing. And these 24 hours were extremely disappointing for several teams - the only hit was scored by the Rakitovo team with a wonderful fish weighing over 6.5 kg. caught in the dark part of the day…
Did you know that… A large area of the Batak Reservoir was cleaned by representatives of the NSRV to ensure a professional running of the competition and to set a good example to the youngest competitors that keeping the environment clean is more than a duty – it's a cause!

Easter Sunday brought the long awaited beautiful weather to Batak, but the competition fishing time was coming to an end... The signal for the end of the competition sounded at exactly 11 o'clock and all the teams one by one gathered at the starting point just above Sector 1 .The comments from all the fishermen were that the beauty of the dam is unmatched and they will definitely be back next year when the weather will surely be on their side.
All participants received material prizes from the sponsors of the event, and after the obligatory common photo for memory, all participants left with many good memories and pleasant emotions!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
All funds collected from participation fees and donations for this event were invested in stocking material of white carp - 1200 pcs. with the size m/u 700g. and 1 kg. which were released into the Batak Dam on 14.4.2024.
