The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast offers excellent opportunities for a low-cost vacation. All it takes is a little planning and flexibility. Many people believe that a summer vacation is necessarily an expensive pleasure. In reality, however, you can enjoy the sea, sun and sand without straining the family budget and spending a lot money. Here's how.
First, choose less popular, but no less beautiful resorts. For example, places like Shkorpilovtsi, Ahtopol, Obzor and Sinemorets offer peace, clean beaches and much lower prices than Sunny Beach or Golden Sands. There you will find guesthouses and family hotels at very affordable prices – between 40 and 80 leva per night for two.
Second, book early or look for deals outside of peak season. A vacation in June or September can save you up to 40% on expenses. The beaches are quieter, and the weather remains pleasant. Online platforms like Booking, Airbnb, and Bulgarian vacation sites often offer promotions if you book early or for more nights.
Third, if you have a tent or caravan, camping is a great alternative. Campsites like “Gradina”, “Yug”, “Kavatsite” and “Zlatna Ribka” offer accommodation that is more budget-friendly. Plus, you will be literally meters from the beach and will enjoy nature.
Eating out can also be economical. Avoid the beachfront restaurants, where prices are inflated. Look for local eateries, sandwich stands, or home kitchens. You can eat there for under 10 leva. If you rent an apartment, you can cook your own food. Buy products from local markets – they will be cheaper and fresher.
Don't forget about free entertainment. A walk along the coast at sunset, an evening market, a visit to the old town parts of Nessebar or Sozopol – all of this is completely free. Many resorts organize summer festivals, concerts or open-air theater performances. Check the programs of local municipalities in advance.
If you are traveling with friends, group travel will save you a lot. Split the costs of transportation and accommodation. If you don’t have a car, check out the bus lines. Intercity transportation in Bulgaria is still reasonably priced. You can get to most resorts by bus for less than the cost of fuel for a private car.
Another useful tip – bring your own umbrella, mat and food for the beach. This way you will avoid the high prices for renting an umbrella and a sunbed. In some quieter areas, sunbathing is completely free and peaceful. You will find such places around Shkorpilovtsi, Irakli and Kamchia.
Combine the sea with a walk in the nearby nature. For example, near Sinemorets is the Silkosia reserve. Near Ahtopol you can visit the Veleka River, where cheap boat trips are offered. Such activities are cheap, but very impressive.
A beach holiday in Bulgaria doesn't have to be expensive. Choose the right time and place. Be a little more organized and enjoy the sun and sea without unnecessary expenses. With the right approach, summer can be fulfilling, affordable and unforgettable.
