Every spring, Velingrad becomes the scene of one of the most beloved folklore events in our country – the National Festival for Lovers of Bulgarian Folklore “Spring Dance”. The festival is an established name in the cultural calendar of the city and the region and attracts participants and guests from all over the country – people who come not to compete, but to share tradition, mood and common rhythm.

When and where is it held?

The festival is organized in Velingrad and takes place in several key points of the city. The day usually includes:

  • Official opening and presentation of the groups in the sports hall of the city stadium.

  • Parade-defile – a festive procession through the streets of the city, which attracts attention and creates a real festival atmosphere.

  • General festival people on Nikolay Gyaurov Square – the finale, in which the dance becomes a common language for everyone.

What makes the festival different?

"Spring Dance" is one-day festival of non-competitive natureHis idea is clear: to bring together enthusiasts from different places and schools, to give a stage to the Bulgarian people and to turn the tradition into a living experience – not as a spectacle, but as participation.

The program is usually divided into three parts:

  1. Stage performance – the groups perform choral works within a short, tight format.

  2. Parade-defile – the dynamic moment when folklore takes to the streets.

  3. People outdoors – the culmination with common people who encompass the wealth of Bulgarian folklore areas.

Who can participate?

Amateur schools, clubs and ensembles – from beginners to advanced – can participate. This is a festival that gives space to both experienced dancers and people who are just discovering the beauty of the Bulgarian people. The important thing is the desire to be part of the community and to share the energy of dance.

Partnership: "Feel Bulgaria" and special drone filming

This year The "Feel Bulgaria" team is among the festival's partners and will take care of it especially for drone filming of the event. The goal is to leave behind not just a memory, but a strong visual narrative: the parade through the city, spring Velingrad, the scale of the general dance in the square and the emotion that is best felt "from above".

Why it's worth experiencing

"Spring Dance" is one of those events that is felt with the whole body – from the first rhythm to the last step of the final dance. This is a celebration for people who want to see Bulgaria alive – in the music, the costumes, the smiles and in that moment when strangers hold hands and become one dance.
