As you know, in our section "Feel Bulgaria with…" we introduce you to various personalities who have impressed us on social networks with beautiful photos and great stories related to their travels in Bulgaria. Today we meet you with the charming Vessela Hristova / @hristova_vesela / - a real motivator and narrator of visual stories. Here is what she told us about herself…

Hello friends! My name is Vessela Hristova, storyteller and travel blogger. I have been looking for travel and adventure in my life since early childhood. These are the activities that charge me the most, that lead me forward, and really help me to balance in my otherwise active city life. I feel most real and alive when I'm on the road, always in nature. I passionately love the mountains of Bulgaria, but I am no less attracted by the sea and the freedom it brings us in the summer. In recent years, I have rediscovered Bulgaria and I really "feel" it.

The Rhodopes

We can't miss it The Rhodopes - the mountain with a soul. From the Rhodopes there are many natural and architectural sites, picturesque villages, breathtaking views, stunning rock formations and many hiking and biking trails. The first stop on our journey through several unique landmarks in the Rhodopes is the "Womb". Utrobata Cave is a Thracian sanctuary in southern Bulgaria, located in a rocky area near the village of Nenkovo, Kardzhali region.

The cave The "womb" dates back to Thracian times and is a natural horizontal cleft in the rock, resembling a woman's womb. Water is constantly flowing along the walls of the cave. An altar is carved at the southern inner end of the cave. The light projection at the entrance moves along the walls and ground of the cave and is synchronized with the movement of the Sun. This movement reaches its maximum at noon, reaching the entire length of the cave along its central axis to an artificial altar resembling a woman's womb.

We continue our virtual walk through the Rhodopes - our next stop is the famous meanders of the Arda River. The most famous of them - "The Turn" is located in the Eastern Rhodopes, west of the town of Kardzhali.

If you want to get by car, you have to drive from Kardzhali to the town of Ardino (or vice versa) until you reach the bend for the villages of Mlechino and Borovitsa (17 km from both towns). Follow the road to Borovitsa and after passing the village you will see a large crossroads. Continue straight (there is a road sign showing the way to the village of Suhino) and 2.7 km after you you will reach the destination.

Rila

Of course, we stop at the most famous natural landmark in the unique Rila, and perhaps in all of Bulgaria - Rila Lakes. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are located between 2100 and 2500 meters above sea level.

Some useful information and tips from Vesela for your next walk in Rila:

  • There are 120 glacial lakes, including the famous Seven Rila Lakes.
  • The best time to visit the lakes is summer, in July and August, when the temperature is above 10 degrees Celsius and the risk of sudden storms is lower.
  • Leave very early if you use public transport. If you can choose, you better go there during the week, not on the weekend.
  • Carry an empty bottle of water, you can fill it from natural springs. ️
  • Wear a hat - no shade.

Nose Agalina

From the mountains we head to the sea and an extremely beautiful location - Cape Agalina. РLocated between the town of Sozopol and the resort of Duni, it is a collection of small bays and rock formations in an area with specific coastal flora and fauna.

The rock phenomenon here is very similar to a fjord. Also, the place is easily accessible and walking is minimal. It is located about 9 km south of the center of Sozopol. In addition, the entire area around the cape has been declared a natural landmark. This is a beautiful place right on the rocks, which is also worth a walk. After 300 meters of walking on the dirt road you will reach the long crack.

Struitsa-Kaleto eco-trail

At the end of our virtual journey through Bulgaria with Vessela Hristova we go to an incredibly beautiful eco-trail - Struitsa-Kaleto to the town of Devin.

The total length of the main trail is approximately 4 km. The path winds along the meanders of the river, in some places you walk on bridges over the water, in others you will find mountain shelters, fireplaces, benches and fabulous waterfalls! It takes about 2 hours to walk the trail in both directions! The trail is a starting point for two beautiful waterfalls.

At the end of this article we from @Feel Bulgaria we would advise you - follow Vesela on instagram - @hristova_vesela You will surely be inspired and visit at least one of the great places she shows us…
