Between Pazardzhik and Peshtera, on the side of the road, there is a memorial site connected with the tragic death of the writer and public figure Aleko Konstantinov. On May 11, 1897, the “Lucky Man” was struck down here by a bullet intended for another passenger – an event that put an end to one of the brightest voices in Bulgarian literature and public life. Today, a monument made of white Vratsa marble has been erected at this site, surrounded by a small park with benches, where visitors can stop for a moment and pay their respects. The memorial is easily accessible, as it is located right next to the road, and is a suitable stop for anyone passing along this route. Thus, Aleko’s admirers can combine their trip with a short bow to the memory of one of the most beloved Bulgarian humorists and publicists.
