Montana is a regional city with a population of 40,000. people, in North-West Bulgaria. Montana is a city with a thousand-year history: it got its first name from the Romans - Montanesium, later it got the name Ferdinand, thanks to which the city got a status from Prince Ferdinand I himself. The climate here is clearly pronounced - cold winter and hot summer . The city is located along the river Ogosta. Southwest of Montana is also dam August.

Cultural life in Montana is in full swing. The city historical museum stores over 50,000 movable cultural assets. Only here you can see a close-up copy of what was discovered in Yakimovo treasure, medieval treasure from the 14th century, gold ornaments from the Romans, the old Chipro carpets, ancient icons and many others. The museum is located in the central part of the city and is an extremely convenient location.
Book a great vacation spot in the city of Montana here:
The archeological exposition "Lapidarium", the Michael's house and the church "St. Cyril and Methodius". Lapidarium is a rather unusual place, because there you will come across stones with archaeological meaning - monuments, columns, plaques, etc. On some of the monuments barely noticeable, but carrying their message, inscriptions remained. The artifacts exhibited in the site testify to the belief of the people of the lands in the goddess Diana, the god Apollo, Hygia, etc. Here you will also find out who are the important authorities who once ruled Mysia.

An interesting location is the remains of the fortress Castra ad Montanesium, where the town's name actually comes from. The site is under research to this day, but the large basilica, the fortress walls, a small church, as well as a tower and a gate at the very top of the fortress stand out. Wild vegetation has covered part of the authentic fortress walls, but despite this, the place remains charming in its own way.
However, if you prefer time spent in nature, then nothing prevents you from heading south from the fortress and ending up at the beautiful Montana Reservoir. The dam is more than suitable for fishing, sports and water tourism. Montana is also known for its other such dam - Ogosta, where the charming church submerged in its waters is hidden. The story here tells that the church was part of the village of Zhivovtsi, which, together with the neighboring village of Kalimanitsa, due to coincidences, remain at the bottom of the dam. The beauty of Augusta is as impressive as the history of this place. This destination is more than suitable for taking attractive photos!

And here is something useful: - not far from Montana is the Klisur Monastery, near Varshets. A 5-minute walk from the monastery there is an Ayazmo, known for its healing water.
