In the western part of the Western Rhodopes – one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains, 100 km from the nearest airport, close to a city Plovdiv and 190 km from the airport Sofia, Shiroka Polyana dam is located. This one extremely beautiful dam and the forests around it will amaze you with their beauty!
The area around Shiroka Polyana offers excellent conditions for fishing and recreation. A characteristic feature of the region is the late spring, short and cool summer, warm autumn, followed by a cold and long winter with a thick snow cover. There is also the possibility of photographically and ecotourism excursions to natural and historical landmarks. The remains of an ancient Roman bridge can be seen in the Kemera area and the foundations of a former Roman settlement in the Genevra area.
Wide meadow is part of the Dospat dam cascade. If you stay in the area, you can also walk to Batak or Dospat - both dams are great places for a walk and relaxation with the whole family. The group of dams is suitable for year-round visits, but be aware that winters are particularly cold and there is heavy snow. We recommend you to visit the dams in the summer - then it is warm and pleasant!
