Information
The Goritsa Shepherd's waterfall is located in the northern foothills of Rila, near the village of Ovchartsi and the town of Sapareva Banya. This is the lowest waterfall in Rila – at 900 meters above sea level. The name of the river and the waterfall comes from the story of a beautiful girl from the village named Gorica, who lived happily with her chosen one, the shepherd Jovica. Word of the girl's beauty reached the local Turkish bey, who sent his servants to kidnap her. Gorica ran towards the mountain from her pursuers and in order not to fall into their hands, she threw herself off the rocks.
