The holiday is an exceptional event for young people, because on this day every neighborhood makes a big bonfire, called differently in different parts of Bulgaria (garo, gaganica) and every neighborhood strives to make the biggest bonfire. After burning, the fire is jumped over by the young for health and prosperity in the new year.
