The Ovech fortress is located in Provadia, about 54 km from Varna and about 410 km from Sofia. It is located on a plateau above the city called Kaleto. The Ovech fortress has three entrances. The eastern entrance has been preserved in its original version with stone steps cut into the rock. The west entrance is accessed from the city by a metal spiral staircase with 111 steps. The main entrance to the fortress is the northern entrance. A 150 m long bridge was built in front of it, which connects Kaleto with the neighboring Tabiia plateau.
The foundations of three medieval churches have been preserved here, one of which is the metropolitan church. In addition, you can see towers, gates, knight's prison, streets and more. Also, a well with a depth of 79 meters was dug here.
The Ovech fortress interweaves interesting historical facts and incredible beauty. Climbing the plateau, you will be impressed by the wonderful views of the city and the surrounding area.
