Fotinovo and Fotino waterfalls
A little known but extremely beautiful destination, especially if you are a fan of waterfalls. Fotinovo is one of those villages that seem to be frozen in time… There you will see old IJ motorcycles with a basket, which the locals still use as a vehicle, you will walk on cobbled streets, you will enjoy the unique architecture… The waterfalls are located about 1-1: 30 minutes walk from the end of the village. The transition is easy and pleasant, only the last part of about 500m. is relatively difficult and steep. The waterfalls are 3 and are incredibly beautiful…
The deaf stones
This Thracian an ancient sanctuary is really impressive. The niches that are carved into the rocks are a total of 459. No one knows the exact purpose of this impressive complex located in the Eastern Rhodopes… There are many guesses as to what they were really used for, but they are all just guesses… The most common idea is that they were used as memorial complexes and each niche itself is a burial chamber where the ashes of the dead were placed. Who knows what the ancients used for - we know only one thing, you should not miss to visit this unique place!

Satan dere
Sheitan Dere, or as it is also known as this place "Devil's Canyon", is located under the wall of the dam Studen Kladenets and is one of the little known landmarks in the Rhodopes. Seen from above, the natural landmark visualizes landscape from another planet through which the Arda River passes. The canyon is of volcanic origin and has frozen lava from the long-extinct volcano. In general, the whole region around Studen Kladenets Dam is uniquely beautiful, so Satan Dere is just one of the reasons to visit it 😉
The village of Gela
The village of Gela is located in the heart of the Rhodopes, near the town Smolyan. Here time seems to have stopped and all the splendor of the Rhodopes will flood you… If you are looking for peace and timelessness, then Gela is definitely your place. In the summer, around August 1, the unique bagpipe competition is held, which aims to encourage and preserve the Bulgarian traditions of bagpipe playing… Another reason to go to the Rhodopes and Gela in the summer…

Karadjov stone
Karadjov stone is another unique phenomenon that you can see in the Rhodopes - a huge stone stuck between two rocks. You can reach it from Krastova Gora, it takes about 40 minutes on foot. There is a slightly dangerous wooden ladder that allows you to climb under the rock and see the stone from a different point of view. This is definitely one of the most interesting and memorable places you will be able to climb… besides, the view from the top is breathtaking…
