The Rila Monastery is without a doubt the most significant spiritual and cultural symbol of Bulgaria. It is not just a building, but the heart of Bulgarian faith, memory and resilience. Situated in the bosom of the Rila Mountain, at an altitude of 1147 meters, the monastery offers not only a religious experience, but also a strong connection with nature, history and national identity.

It was founded in the 10th century by St. John of Rila - the most revered Bulgarian saint. The monastery has survived through the centuries as a symbol of faith and steadfastness. During the Ottoman rule, it was a refuge for monks, writers and fighters for spiritual independence. This place has sheltered hundreds of manuscripts, which are today kept in the monastery's libraries.

Under the auspices of UNESCO in Bulgaria - Rila Monastery
