There are many Thracian sanctuaries on our lands. Our lands were inhabited by the ancient Thracian people, and traces of this are scattered all over Bulgaria. In this article, we introduce you to 5 of the most impressive Thracian sanctuaries remaining on our lands to this day. Here they are:

1. Belintash

The Thracian sanctuary of Belintash is located in the heart of The Rhodopes. The rock formation bears traces of human activity. It is believed to be a cult site that dates back to the Eneolithic and was used as a place where locals performed rituals. It is possible that during the time of the Thracians, the sanctuary was dedicated to the god Sabazius. Separate parts of the rock surface resemble a map of the starry sky and a gigantic figure of a lion lying on its stomach. The nature that surrounds this special place is no less impressive. This landmark is well worth a visit and the rare and protected bird species that nest around will surely be your companion during the tour!
