Bulgaria is a small country with a vast history, traditions and customs. Bulgarian culture is extremely diverse. Epiphany, or better known as Jordan's Day is one of the biggest Christian holidays in our country, celebrated on January 6. This is the day on which John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ in the waters of the Jordan River. Many stories and legends are told in connection with this day, but one of them is the most authentic. It is believed that the moment Jesus Christ was immersed in the river, the heavens "opened" and the Holy Spirit descended on the baptized Jesus, in the form of a dove. Then the voice spread, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." The story around this day makes us shiver, but no less exciting is what Bulgarians are doing today\u2026<\/p>\n

Every year on January 6 throughout Bulgaria, the local priest, accompanied by a procession, goes to the nearest river, where he throws the Holy Cross. An odd number of men throw themselves into the water, despite the cold and low temperature, to remove the waist. Health and happiness throughout the year await the one who brought it out. In case the thrown cross freezes, health and prosperity are expected throughout the year. And if the weather is dry and cold, then the year is considered fertile and good. In addition, after the cross-country race is over, all the men dance together in the icy waters. Finally, the priest sprays a bunch of basil on all the people to keep them healthy.<\/p>\n

The event caught the attention of the whole population. There is almost no Bulgarian who is not present. The strength and courage shown by the young Bulgarian swimmers at this moment are worthy of adoration. And the Bulgarian spirit is stronger than ever, because even the bad weather conditions fail to break it. Jordan Day is a holiday that brings special energy. The competition for the cross and the dance, led by a great Bulgarian tricolor, managed to awaken the patriotism of everyone.
\nEpiphany is one of the holidays that prove that mother Bulgaria has given birth and continues to give birth to worthy Bulgarian sons. . And we should be proud and preserve our homeland, because a nation whose women dance on fire and men swim in the ice cannot be destroyed\u2026<\/p>\n
