Cave womb

The name of the cave comes from its type - female genitalia. Initially, the rock crevasse was much smaller and narrower. However, with the intervention of a human hand, its depth gradually increases from 16 m to 22 m. At the bottom of the cave, our ancestors carved an altar resembling a uterus. It is said that every year on the day of the spring solstice, a ray of sunlight passes through the entrance of the cave, which reaches the bottom and "fertilizes the vulva".

The cave is located 23 km from Kardzhali, on the road to the village of Nenkovo. Passing Borovitsa Hotel, located on the shores of Kardzhali Dam, just after it on the right there is a sign and a path. The transition to the cave takes about an hour or so. I advise you to prepare yourself with comfortable shoes, water and wide open eyes for beautiful views.

The stone mushrooms

The stone mushrooms are rock formations that are located near the village of Beli Plast, in the area of the town of Kardzhali. Their formation dates back to the Paleogene, when it was all a seabed. They are then reshaped as a result of the action of water and wind. Their height is about 2.5 meters and the same width. On the mushrooms you can see different shades of color that resemble pink stumps and greenish hats. Each color shade in them is composed of a different mineral. Precisely because of the presence of one of these minerals - clinoptilolite, it is believed that the rock phenomenon has cleansing and healing properties.

Unfortunately, little by little, the google of mushrooms is crumbling and it is not known how long they will be in their best shape. This was one of the reasons to visit this natural landmark and I recommend everyone else to do it - this is a great destination for a walk in Bulgaria.
