Vitosha is the fourth highest mountain in Bulgaria. It rises in close proximity to the largest city and capital of Bulgaria - Sofia. The first steps of hiking, mountaineering, ski sports, tourist orientation and tourist marking in Bulgaria are connected with the Vitosha mountain. Today we introduce you to 5 unique places that are definitely worth seeing in Vitosha.

№ 1
Duhlata cave

Duhlata is the longest cave in Bulgaria, with a total length of 18 km. It is located in the southwestern part of Vitosha, next to the village of Bosnek. It is a complex cave system on six floors with multiple entrances. Its name comes from the sound that the wind makes at its entrance. 7 underground rivers flow through it, most likely connected to the Struma River. They collect their waters and spring into the karst spring "Gornata Cheshma". Duhlata has 6 cave levels and many beautiful halls with limestone formations and lakes. Access is only possible with an experienced guide and after appropriate training. The labyrinthine nature of the cave makes it dangerous for unprepared tourists. 22 species of animals live in Duhlata, 6 of which are bats. To preserve the rare fragile formations, the entrance to the cave is closed.

№ 2
Zverchetto waterfall
"The Beast" waterfall is a little-known Vitosha waterfall. It is located in the most difficult part of the steep path to the Boyan Waterfall. There isn't even a path to the "Beast" - you go straight down the terrain, and then climb back up to the path. But the view is really worth it. The waterfall itself is about 15 meters high.
№ 3
Golden bridges
The Golden Bridges are one of the most visited areas in Vitosha. They are located at 1390 meters above sea level, in the middle course of the Vladiyska River. Besides the beautiful view, the huge oval stone blocks of syenite (moraine) along the wide river bed are also impressive. Most moraines are covered with yellowish lichens, which, warmed by the sun, acquire a golden color. This is one of the explanations for the name of the place. Others associate the name with the presence of gold-bearing sand in the river, which is also a fact. The area also impresses with its wonderful spruces, centuries-old beeches and beautiful birches.

Boyan Waterfall
Boyanski waterfall is located at 1260 meters above sea level, in the area of the andesite rock ridge of Vitosha. The water drop is 40 meters. The waterfall can be reached by two paths marked by signs. One leads along the river, it is steep and in many places there are sections that are difficult to pass. Its ascent takes about 50 minutes. The other trail is gentler and gradually climbs upwards, with wonderful panoramic views in places. It passes through the only natural yew deposit in Vitosha. The ascent on this trail takes about an hour and a half.

Raven stone
Garvan Kamk is a rocky peak and natural landmark located not far from Novi Khan. An entire area is named after the peak. The summit consists of two noticeably larger rock formations and numerous small rocks below and beside them. The higher rock (880 meters) has a more massive and complete structure. The slightly lower one (870 meters) consists of several scattered rocks. A pylon with a metal bird and the Bulgarian flag is placed on an isolated rock above the Studenitsa river. The area around the smaller Raven Stone is believed to have housed an ancient sanctuary.
